Generating data visualizations and infographics from prompts. Combines text rendering + diagrammatic layout — challenging task where models still struggle.
Setup walkthrough
- Install ComfyUI via Stability Matrix.
- ComfyUI Manager → Install Models → "flux1-dev" (~23 GB) — Flux has the best text rendering among open-weight image models.
- For infographics, you need text to render correctly. Flux is the only open-weight model where text is readable at 1024×1024.
- Workflow: simple text-to-image with Flux Dev. Prompt: "Clean infographic showing 3 steps to better sleep: 1. No screens 1hr before bed, 2. Consistent wake time, 3. Cool dark room. Each step with a simple icon. Modern flat design, blue and white, clean layout."
- Steps=20-25 (more steps = better text), guidance=3.5-4. Resolution=1200×1600 (portrait infographic).
- First infographic in 10-20 seconds on 24 GB GPU. Text accuracy is ~80-90% — expect to regenerate 2-4 times for perfect text.
- For data visualization (bar charts, pie charts): the model can generate these from prompts alone, but numerical accuracy is unreliable. Use for layout/inspiration, not final data.
The cheap setup
Honestly: $300-400 cannot produce reliable infographics. Flux Dev needs 24 GB for FP16 with good text rendering. On 12 GB (RTX 3060), Flux at FP8 runs but text accuracy drops to 60-70% because quantization affects the text-rendering parts of the model. You'll spend more time fixing AI-generated text errors than creating the infographic from scratch. For this specific task, $300 is better spent on Canva Pro ($13/month) — AI-assisted templates with guaranteed correct text. Local infographic generation at $300-400 is not practical for production use.
The serious setup
Used RTX 3090 24 GB ($700-900, see /hardware/rtx-3090). Runs Flux Dev at full FP16 — 80-90% text accuracy on infographics. For an infographic with ~20 words, expect 2-4 generations to get all text correct. Pair with Ryzen 7 7700X + 64 GB DDR5 + 2TB NVMe. Total: ~$1,800-2,200. For production infographic creation: use Flux for the visual layout + icons, then overlay correct text in Figma/Canva. RTX 4090 ($2,000, see /hardware/rtx-4090) reduces iteration time to 5-8 seconds per generation. Infographics remain the hardest image generation task — text rendering is still unreliable.
Common beginner mistake
The mistake: Generating an infographic with AI, seeing the text looks correct from 3 feet away, and publishing it without reading every word. Why it fails: AI image models are statistically predicting pixels that look like letters. They generate plausible text-shapes that are actually gibberish — "Healtth" instead of "Health," "Slepe" instead of "Sleep," or entirely hallucinated words that look like English from a distance. The fix: Read every word out loud. Zoom to 200% and verify every character. Expect 1-3 text errors per infographic even with Flux. For production use, generate the layout + icons with AI, then overlay a text layer in Figma/Canva/Illustrator. AI generates the design; you guarantee the text. Text rendering in image models will improve but is not trustworthy in 2026.

Reality check
Image gen is compute-bound, not bandwidth-bound. VRAM matters for the resolution + LoRA training stack, but FP16 TFLOPS is what decides Flux throughput. The 5080's compute advantage over 5070 Ti shows here in ways it doesn't on LLM inference.
Common mistakes
- Buying for VRAM ceiling without checking compute (16 GB Flux Dev FP16 doesn't fit anyway)
- Skipping LoRA training requirements (24 GB minimum, 32 GB comfortable for Flux)
